The Bewick woodblock project was part of a project to explore to possibility effectively 3D scanning some of Thomas Bewick’s original woodblocks.
The project worked with Newcastle University’s Culture lab and The Great North Museum. It employed a variety of 3D scanning techniques including Photogrammetry, Structured Light Scanning and Blue Light scanning in an attempt to digitally capture the intricacies of Thomas Bewick’s woodblocks.
A high resolution Artec Spider was used in the end as it was able to capture the surface detail as well as an accurate colour map.
